Mushroom Park Artist filled the path with fanciful creatures.
One cool and clear Sunday afternoon we visited the six city parks that dot the Dicken neighborhood:
1. Las Vegas -- ironically named. Nothing naughty or sexy or risky about this place. But it is comfy and reassuring and lovely.
3. Dicken -- Nothing spectacular to report about this little park, which is basically a mowed triangular patch of lawn.
2. Mushroom -- how cool and different this park is. Hilly, and much longer and larger than it first appears, this park is known (and presumably named) for its colorful metal mushroom sculptures that also serve as nifty chairs.
3. Dicken -- Nothing spectacular to report about this little park, which is basically a mowed triangular patch of lawn.
4. Dicken Woods -- The find of the day. Though we were aware of the existence of this park, we had no idea of the extent of it -- or of its beauty. The woods back up to Dickens School and feature numeorous well-marked paths that meander through a fairly dense wooded area. We noted various species of birds and a wild assortment of plants and trees and shrubbery. We thoroughly enjoyed our lengthy walk through these woods
5. Hansen -- Its playground is easily accessible from Maple, and its play structure is fairly new -- and fun! We observed from afar but didn't walk into its adjacent nature reserve, which looks fairly sizable.
6. South Maple -- This park offers a large gathering area with a wooded section that buffers the I-94 freeway.
There's a short story in the Observer this month about the artist who decorates the walks in Mushroom Park and some adjacent parks. He's a middle school student.
ReplyDeleteYes it was great to read as we were very curious as to who did the incredible drawings.
